WELCOME!!
Welcome to Drawing Hope Counselling Services!
We specialise in providing individual counselling support for children, adults and teens, and in using expressive therapies such as art therapy and play therapy
Our approach is trauma informed and neurodivergent affirming. Each session is adjusted to meet the individual needs and interests of the client.
Services are mobile and in clinic.
- Mobile services are available on the Sunshine Coast between Coolum and Elimbah. This allows supports to be provided in the comfort of your home.
- In clinic appointments are available at Beyond Words Therapy Centre, Beerwah.
For more information about these services please click here.
Counselling using creative therapies can be particularly helpful for:
- children and teens
- neurodiverse people (with an ASD and/or ADHD diagnosis),
- people with disabilities,
- people who have experienced trauma
Creative therapy can be a fantastic option when words are not enough, when people struggle to articulate themselves, and/or when people want to explore solutions in a fun and non-threatening way.
ABOUT ME: Hannah Cox
I have been walking alongside people helping them find healing and hope for over twenty years. I have worked with disadvantaged young people, providing counselling, support and case management to teens at risk of disengaging from education or from becoming homeless, children in the child protection system, teen mothers and autistic young people. I have supported parents as they juggle the joys and struggles of parenting, and carers as they negotiate the many challenges and difficulties their lives involve.
I believe each person is the best expert of their life, and with support can find the best solutions and paths to healing for them. I also believe in the importance of giving people choice and control over how they engage in counselling and adapt each session to meet a person's needs.
I am a qualified and certified counsellor - I have a Masters of Counselling, a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in Pastoral Counselling, and a certificate in Art Therapy. I am a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association. I am also an artist and have artworks displayed in homes around the world.
However there has been no greater educator than life!
Being the parent of two awesome, neurodivergent boys has taught me a lot about parenting, about autism and ADHD, about the struggles and heartaches that are faced by families with a child with a disability, about the challenges that autistic people face, and about the strengths and joys that simultaneously exist. I had an unusual childhood growing up in rural parts of Papua New Guinea, surrounded by forests and oceans and enriched by my friendships with the local children. This has given me an interest in connecting with people from other cultures and a natural ability to do so.
When I was twelve years old I developed a health condition which is lifelong and currently has no cure. I've learnt ways of managing and working around my limitations, but have a deep empathy and understanding for people whose lives have been impacted by disability, chronic pain, ongoing health issues, and fatigue.
